UGC NET December 2025: Selection Process
The selection process for the UGC NET December 2025 exam is designed to assess the eligibility of candidates for Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) positions at Indian universities and colleges. The process involves the following steps:
1. UGC NET Exam Structure
The UGC NET exam will consist of two papers:
Paper I: General Paper on Teaching and Research Aptitude
Duration: 1 hour
Total Marks: 100
Number of Questions: 50 questions (all multiple-choice questions)Focus: This paper assesses the candidate’s teaching and research abilities, reasoning, comprehension, and general awareness.
Paper II: Subject-specific Paper
Duration: 2 hours
Total Marks: 200
Number of Questions: 100 questions (all multiple-choice questions)
Focus: This paper tests the candidate’s knowledge in the subject they have chosen to appear for the exam. Candidates can choose from a wide range of subjects offered in UGC NET.
2. Marking Scheme
Each correct answer is awarded 2 marks.
There is no negative marking for incorrect answers.
Paper I will consist of 50 questions, and Paper II will have 100 questions, making a total of 150 questions.
3. Eligibility Criteria for Selection
Assistant Professor:
A candidate who secures the minimum qualifying marks will be eligible for the post of Assistant Professor in Indian universities and colleges. There is no upper age limit for Assistant Professor eligibility.
Junior Research Fellowship (JRF):
Candidates who qualify UGC NET and score within the JRF cut-off will be eligible for the Junior Research Fellowship. This allows them to pursue research in their chosen field.
4. Cut-off Marks & Merit List
The cut-off marks for UGC NET are decided based on various factors like the number of candidates, exam difficulty, and subject-specific criteria.
The minimum qualifying marks are usually:
